Wilder than Midnight

by Cerrie Burnell

Review

This was a super fun and magical book that is full of strong, independent females and terrifying wolves! Something a little different to my usual read, but a great book nonetheless.

The main thing that I like about this book is the 3 storylines weaved into one. Although it took me a while to get my head around, once I was familiar with the characters, it became much easier to follow and ended up trying together pretty neatly! I really liked the diversity in the characters too and found that they all had a unique personality and brought something new to the storyline.

The setting flits between three main places: the village, the forest and the kingdom. This kept me on my toes and let my imagination run wild and also provided the opportunity to meet lots of different characters. My favourites were of course the wolves (who doesn't love a feral dog with razor-sharp teeth?!) and the apothecary, who is a pretty unique character and one I have not encountered before.

Overall, this is a great tale of fearless females who refuse to wait around for a prince to save them. I loved the independence of the protagonists in this book and found it pretty empowering! This would be a great shared read for developing readers as the storyline can get a little confused at times, but definitely a winner for readers who love stories of action, adventure and courage!

Overview

The Kingdom of Silvethorne contains many hidden secrets. The forest bustles with wolves, the villagers stick to the safety of familiar paths and the castle keeps its doors locked and secrets inside. But within the Kingdom live three girls. Three girls who are ready to break free.

Saffy is a sweet young girl who lives in the village where things never really change. Although a sensible girl, Saffy longs to know what lurks in the forbidden forest that surrounds her tranquil home. However, she also know the stories from the village, warning others of the dangers that lurk beyond the darkness.

Aurelia is a determined girl who lives in a castle. She too longs to know the world beyond her prison, but understands the consequences should she ever follow her dreams.

Wild Rose is a feisty young girl who lives between these two worlds, in the forbidden forest. Raised by wolves, she fears nothing, but longs for her family to be accepted in the outside world.

Each from an opposite corner of the kingdom, can these girls join forces to free themselves from their chains and change life in Silverthorne forever?
