Review
If you loved the first Whisperwicks book, you’ll be thrilled to know that Impossible Trials is just as magical—maybe even more! I preordered it the moment I could because I couldn’t wait to dive back into the twisting, turning roads of Wreathenwold. And guess what? Jordan Lees didn’t disappoint!
Even though my memory of a few details from the first book was a bit hazy, the beginning of The Impossible Trials gently reminded me of everything I needed to know. It was like returning to an old favorite dream and I was soon completely hooked!
The relationship between Benjamiah and Elizabella remains a highlight for me - their contrasting personalities continue to complement each other wonderfully. HOWEVER the new character Mea adds a new dynamic and layer of mystery which kept me questioning her true intentions throughout the book! 😰
Each of the Impossible Trials is better than the last, and by the third trial, I couldn’t put the book down. From diving into the depths of poppet-infested waters water to avoiding the deadly attacks of ceiling-dwelling murderers, the trials were exciting, weird, magical, and a little bit dangerous—everything you want from a Wreathenwold adventure.
As the story wrapped up, I realised there are still lots of secrets waiting to be uncovered, which makes me even more excited for Whisperwicks 3, coming in Spring 2026. This is a definite must-read for fantasy lovers, and I really hope Jordan Lees continues to bless us with even more magical stories (within and beyond Wreathenwold) in the future!
