Greenwild: The World Behind the Door

Review

Greenwild is a wonderfully magical adventure that swept me away into a rich, green world full of nature and imagination. It’s one of those stories that feels really unique with a mix of our real-world beauty and a bundle of magical, fictional plants and creatures that felt so alive, I had to keep Google nearby just to picture them all properly!

Daisy Thistledown, is a brilliant protagonist —she’s fiery, determined, and very relatable. She has moments of doubt, but she never shies away from the challenges in front of her.

The plot is packed with twists and turns, especially towards the end, which kept me hooked right up until the last page. It also ends in a way that leads perfectly into the next book, which I’m already diving into!

The writing is rich and vivid, and I actually learned loads of new plant names along the way (thanks, Google). It reminded me a lot of Orphans of the Tide by Struan Murray, The Whisperwicks by Jordan Lees, and even a little bit of Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend—especially with the slightly complex storyline and magical themes.

I would recommend this book to confident readers or children who are fascinated by the natural world. There’s some challenging vocabulary, but it would make an amazing shared read too—great for getting completely lost in another world together.
